Its Techy Time

Well the day as arrived we landed in Malta on our quest for the Tech Deep Cert. the hotel is not bad and Dave's broken out the sandals! 1st day tomorrow, we are going to be completing all the paperwork and setting up all the gear. Ron

Day 2: passed first part of the exam today and we finally hit the water, local shore dive near the dive centre off the beach. So we enter the water from the shore with a 10 litres under each arm and two 12's on your back and gave the people looking from the beach a good laugh as we floundered around in the surf, once in the water i could not get down so i had to add 2kgs of weight to the belt. Dive's 1 and 2 out the way more exams tonight and three more to do tomorrow..

Day 3: Well today we set up the kit and finally got in the water.

Dive One: we did a weight check Dave and i needed extra to hold the hover, skills included on this one was a 1 min hover, a shutdown, which was a complete mess, i spent most of the time with my mask in the sand! but i did it, a bit of long hose sharing and team assisted shut downs.

Dive Two: full shutdown, stage removal and putting back on, SAC check, SMB deployment the right way, this time the shutdown went much better!

Tomorrow we start the no mask stuff Great i cant wait

Weekend Diving

Well just finished off with another great weekends weather and some interesting diving from the RIB, MacD.
A few new faces among the divers some moving on up the PADI ladder with their AOW doing the Drift, Boat and DEEP dives in one weekend, great stuff. I hope next weekend is as good so the other dives may be completed.
Thanks to Scott and Richard for looking after the divers and the RIB.
There are quite a few bookings taken already for the next few weeks so give me a call to book on the boat.
Please don't forget your SMB and Computers.

4 Meter Club gets more Members !!

Unwittingly the CLUB has gained more members but alas they don't seem to follow the rules and failed in there HSE regs. The marina entrance has to be Buoyed off to fulfill the HSE requirements stipulated in the Risk Assessments carried out for this site.
Possibly they should not of been there in the first place...any one's guess.
New members need to be vetted and follow the correct protocol to join.

New Open Water Divers

I want to congratulate the following divers that completed their Open Water training this weekend:

Scott Parker (one of our own skippers on MacD)
Shaun Brewer (aka Mince meat)
Will Morris (Bruce)

This has been one of the easiest courses i have had to run so far and the fact that no one had any problems with the skill requirements meant there was plenty of time to get another short dive in.

Special thanks to our two DM Trainees Alan & Steve that worked hard to make ensure that Simon and myself could get on with the task at hand, this as been an exhausting weekend but a worth while one.

one last message of thanks goes to Newhaven Scuba Center who kindly allowed us to use their open water site for our teaching.

Mamouds Revenge - Blue Pearl

Another liveaboard over, seems everyone enjoyed the trip.

There where some highs and and some lows, the lows for me was not diving the Rosalie Moller! i had preped long and hard for a trip to the engine room even working out the decompression stops and gas switches for various mixes of Nitrox, never mind I will dive it again, Highs, well that has to be the Thislegorm, spending a whole 48 Min's looking around before the 12 Min's of stops needed to get out the water, also going inside the El Mina and then running out of tape on the video while inside! and racking up another 6 Min's of Deco.

The group where great, everyone got on very well with each other which made the trip more relaxing.

On a ending note it seems that most ended the trip with a bug of sorts resulting in people spending a lot of time in bed feel ill on their return.

Blue Pearl Here we come!

The T-shirts are ready the bags are near as dam it, packed in less than a week we will be sitting on the Blue Pearl boat, in the red sea somewhere. Everyone is keen to get out there I'm sure a few will have trouble sleeping for all the excitement.

This is our (Ron & Dave & Anita) second trip on this boat and if this lives up to the previous trip we should have a scream, I am looking forward to returning this time as an instructor and i will also be taking along mini me (Aaron) on his first liveaboard.

There are some courses going on during the course Cathrine is doing her Nitrox and Advanced, there are many others doing their Deep and Drift Specialities. Also we are going to push as much though for the trainee DM's that are going along too, who we might get them to do their swim test!

Two new PADI Open Water Students

Today in fabulous sunshine two students passed thier PADI Open Water course.

We have been running the course over the last few months and finally today with the sun on the lake we managed to finished the finall two dives for the open water course.

Both Rebecca and Cathrine passed with flying colors, so well done ladies your now free to dive the world.

I think this says it all....

PADI DM's

After starting a successful training season, our 2 new training DM's Steve and Alan are excited by the challenges that lay ahead. This Easter weekend kicked off with 2 new students doing their PADI OW course under the watchful eye of Ron,their instructor.
A visit to NEMO 33 and NDC at Chepstow,in April will further their training, closely followed by a weeks liveaboard to the Red Sea.A full boat of 18 'Newhaven Divers Ltd.'divers will give them ample experience to extend their knowledge towards their qualification.
I wish them well and am ready for medical queries etc that may arise!

Deborah Mackenzie(Dr Sharp) AMED HSE recognised

PADI OW

The start of a new dive season has started on a good footing with 2 newcomers to the Newhaven Diving family. Starting their PADI OW on friday, followed by 2 days in the pool and now awaiting for more favourable weather temperatures to do the 4 qualifying dives. Rebecca and Catherine have faired well under the watchful eye of Steve and Alan and their instructor Ron.
Teaching in perfect water temps, 30c, is a lot better than freezing out in the open to start the diving adventure. Their journey will take them to Nemo 33 for 2 dives then 2 more dives off the RIB MacD running out of Newhaven, giving them their PADI OW certs.
We wish them all the best to complete their PADI OW and onto greater diving adventures.
Newhaven Diving Team.
